If you’re here, I assume you were like me and looking for Micarta Griptilian Scales, or any replacement scale really. I had been long on the fence about replacement scales as the available options at this time are Aliexpress g10 or micarta scales which don’t really appeal to me too much, and I was closing in on the all black option that is “rebranded” every where in micarta, these range from $20-30. The reason I had been not buying them is because the micarta didn’t look as textured as I would like and I wasn’t sure it was gonna give the grip I hoped for. The only other option for more regularly available premium scales are Flytanium CF scales which are effectively the same price as the knife itself. Fast forward to me checking the price on the all black micarta ones on Amazon and stumbling on these, I was hesitant at first, not shipped by amazon, almost $15 more after shipping, ships from china… But let me tell you I am quite impressed with the Micarta. I am very pleased with the scales and will now go over what I do and don’t like:Pros:-Micarta(it is well textured, quite grippy and you can really feel the material, it is not a higher polish, which can look good, but is often not as tactile or good for grip)-Assembly(relatively easy, this is more an axis lock issue that can arise, but if you know what you’re doing, it’s pretty simple, just remember to screw the posts into one side before putting both scales on)-Fit(fits basically like factory, except it’s not faux integral)-Comfort(soft feeling of micarta, well contoured)Cons:-Ships from china(if you’re in the US it can take a few weeks, not a major con in any way really, I think they were worth the wait)-Screws(no stripping, but the black used isn’t quite the same as benchmades, you can hardly tell though, however they only include the backspacer screws and I think a spare pair so you will have OEM and theirs on it, wear over time could change this)Overall, I really like the scales. I am quite happy with them, and if you’re looking for a tactile micarta, I would put this stuff on par with Kizer’s texture, it’s quite like touching fabric. I would love to see them get more complicated with these, such as milling like the grip scales and/or make an integral version that can use OEM hardware, that said, these are quite nice and I really am liking them. Included pictures are to show the differences between OEM scales and how these dress up a model. I intend to check for other scale options from this seller in the future.
