How Many Boards Do I Need? Fixing Instructions SafaWood should be face fixed with 2 x 63mm coated deckscrews at each joist. The screws should be driven down below the surface of the rubber as this will hide the screwhead and provide maximum hold. If the decking boards are cut, the sawn ends should be treated again with a timber preservative. Supports should be set at a maximum of 450mm centres. In order to help improve drainage, a slight fall should be incorporated into the design.
